@lapis I'd also like to think that providing a link to the toot in question would be better because the toot could have been edited so you'd need to see the full context anyway? I really do think it's about speed, not providing context. People wanna pop something off without giving it a seconds thought. If this really were about providing context, the tools already exist for that. Journalists that are saying they want it don't want to do any in depth reporting, either. They just wanna become the next influencer. This will aid the influencers of the web more than anything else. If it ever gets added to main Mastodon, I'll honestly filter out quoting or make it so nobody can quote me without doing some legwork first.
